Despite criticism from many opinionists who say that present market conditions are too shaky, Sprint Nextel is moving forward with a technology in which it has heavily invested itself. This Wednesday, in the city of Baltimore, Sprint’s new WiMax network will be launched. A little further down the line, Wireless broadband provider Clearwire intends to absorb Sprint’s WiMax assets by year’s-end, and launch the technology nationwide. Experts have questioned any company’s current ability to raise the proper capital for such a venture, yet Clearwire has already partnered with such giants as Google, Intel, and Comcast on the investment; securing more than $3 billion of the estimated $5 billion needed to jumpstart a nationwide WiMax network.
