Welwind Energy International Corp. (WWEI.OB) Doubles Land Position for Wind Farm in British Columbia

Welwind Energy International Corp. (WWEI.OB) is a company which builds, owns, and operates wind farms on an international scale. The company acquired the rights to two wind farms in China in April of 2006. Welwind negotiated agreements with municipal and provincial governments in China to develop 1,000 megawatts of wind energy in Yangxi and Zhanjiang in the province of Guangdong, China. These wind farms are currently still in the development phase.

Welwind Energy is not merely looking in China for areas to develop wind farms. Welwind Energy announced on June 23, 2008, that it is entering into a land-lease agreement in the Peace River region of British Columbia, Canada, which has been designated an exceptional location to develop a wind farm, since it has the best wind speeds in British Columbia.

There are multiple wind farm projects being developed in the area. This is a result of the British Columbia government’s plan, released February 27, 2007, which stated that at least 90% of all electricity generated in the province must be from clean or renewable sources. The province also looks to achieve electricity self-sufficiency by 2016, mainly by the use of hydroelectric power and the untapped potential of wind energy. Welwind Energy is well-positioned to be part of the province’s alternative energy solution.

Initially it was announced that Welwind would be pursuing approximately 2,300 acres in the area, but now the company is looking at doubling its land position to 4,680 acres. The company also anticipates acquiring additional land around the existing 4,680 acres in the near future. Depending on the size of the turbines installed, Welwind is looking to generating a minimum of 100 megawatts.
