Vuzix Corporation announced yesterday that they will begin shipping the first ever widescreen virtual reality video eyewear, the Wrap VR1200, in the Spring of 2011.
The Wrap VR1200 is the most advanced, highest-resolution widescreen virtual reality video eyewear available. It displays 2D video for all games and applications and 3D video and/or head tracking for a broad variety of Windows based programs. The Wrap VR1200 can also connect to component video devices, such as the xBox360 or PlayStation 3. An optional composite adapter enables connection to virtually any audio/video device including the Apple® iPod touch® or iPhone®.
The Wrap VR1200 display provides a viewing experience similar to a 75-inch flat panel television viewed from 10-feet, supporting display resolutions of up to 1280 by 768 with a diagonal field of view of 35 degrees. It includes a Wrap Tracker 6TC, the latest head-tracker technology offering up to 6 degrees of freedom. This provides a true “where you look is what you see” experience.
This next generation hardware is accompanied by the latest release of the Vuzix VR Manager software with 3D driver support for virtually all makes and models of Windows graphics cards.
Mr. Paul J. Travers, Chief Executive Officer of Vuzix Corporation, commented, “The Wrap VR1200 sets a new industry standard for virtual reality eyewear. With higher resolution 16:9 widescreen support and a new head-tracker, it surpasses anything currently on the market.”
Mr. Travers added, “Thousands of software developers have downloaded our software developer kit (SDK) and many applications have 3D stereoscopic video support and head-tracking support that take advantage of our video eyewear. Our most recent SDK release supports the Wrap VR1200.”
The Wrap VR1200 will be on view at the 2011 International Consumer Electronics Show, January 6 to 9, 2011. Vuzix Corporation will be at the Las Vegas Convention Center’s Central Hall, Booth #11740.
