VIASPACE holds more then 100 licensed and proprietary patents which have been filed after years of cutting-edge government R&D and investment from the California Institute of Technology, operator of NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory.
The company has also filed for more patents including the most recent one which applies tamper resistant technology to its micro-fuel cells. Current battery chemistries are struggling to meet the increased demand for more powerful and longer lasting batteries to use in portable devices. VIASPACE’s methanol fuel cells store approximately 17 times more energy in the same amount of space as a AA battery.
Frost & Sullivan, a market research firm, believes that micro fuel-cell technology has a significant advantage over batteries with enormous potential to meet the rising consumer demand. The research firm projects that the fuel cell industry will produce 72 million unit shipments by 2010 and quadruple that number by 2013.
