Viaspace announced that its CEO, Dr. Carl Kukkonen, presented the company’s micro fuel cells for portable electronics at the BATTERIES 2007 Congress in France. The conference is an annual European event that focuses on rechargeable battery technology, markets, products and regulations. An entire session was dedicated to micro fuel cells and ultracapacitors which represent alternatives to rechargeable batteries.
Viaspace’s subsidiary, Direct Methanol Fuel Cell Corporation, produces disposable methanol fuel cartridges that provide the liquid energy source for fuel cells, which produce electricity for portable electronic devices. The cartridges are made of recyclable materials, but international regulations state that they should not be refillable by the consumer for safety reasons, as a result offering companies such as Viaspace a recurring revenue stream.
