US Farms Inc (USFI.OB) is a diversified commercial farming and nursery company. The company’s products are sold through supermarkets, home centers, garden centers, retail merchandisers, and landscapers throughout the US and Canada.
The biggest revenue generator for US Farms is its focus on the growing and brokering of food crops such as asparagus, tomatoes and garlic, as well as the growing and harvesting of Aloe vera for use as an ingredient in medicines and cosmetics. The 1st quarter 2008 results showed a 42% increase in revenues compared to 2007. For the year ending December 31, 2007 the company showed record revenues of nearly $9.5 million.
US Farms has implemented new ‘leading-edge’ farming technologies in raising their crops. One of these is the practice of “shade farming”. The company uses a ‘shade house’, built at a fraction of the cost of a glass greenhouse, with a proprietary cover cloth that deflects the UV rays of the sun. This keeps UV rays from burning the plants and creates an environment that reduces plant stress and stimulates up to a 35% increase in average growth. Coupled with a computerized watering system, this allows US Farms to compete exceedingly well against other growers and importers.
