UQM Technologies, a developer and manufacturer of power-dense, high-efficiency electric motors, generators, and power electronic controllers, announced that their products serve as the backbone for the new Regen Nautic E180 all-electric outboard motor. Regen’s cutting edge product was introduced this week at the Dusseldorf Boat Show.
“Working with Regen Nautic, we continue to expand the marine applications for our electric propulsion products,” said Eric R. Ridenour, President and Chief Executive Officer of UQM Technologies, Inc. “Our systems are ideally suited for marine applications which require exceptional performance, whether used in all-electric or series-hybrid propulsion systems.”
Specifically, the E180 features a UQM PowerPhase Select® 145 electric motor and controller system, which fits neatly inside a conventional-looking outboard motor housing. Regen Nautic claims that the all-electric E180 has equivalent power output to a 180-horsepower gas-powered outboard motor. The power plant is controlled with an intuitive push-button interface at helm station created by Regen Nautic.
“The E180 electric system mounts and operates much like a traditional outboard motor,” said Pierre Caouette, ReGen Nautic President and Chief Operating Officer. “This provides a viable option for those wanting electric power to significantly reduce operating costs, as well as remove their carbon footprint from watersports.”
The Regen Nautic E180 will be on display at the Dusseldorf Boat Show, happening now through January 27, 2013.
