Public companies love to release positive news and watch the reflection in their stock prices. The following companies released positive news of some kind today or late yesterday and then watched as their stock prices closed very strong.

Shares of Americas Wind Energy (OTCBB: AWNE) rose 12 cents today, moving nearly 19 percent to 77 cents, moving on volume of 566,430. Yesterday the company announced that Waverly Light Power, the only wind generated power supplier in the Midwest, announced the $3.4 million purchase of two of AWE’s wind turbines, expected to be in operation by the summer of 2008.

Microtek Medical Holdings (Nasdaq: MTMD) shares were up $1.31, nearly 28 percent, to $6.00 Wednesday afternoon, moving on volume of 7.1 million. Today the company announced Ecolab (NYSE: ECL) will acquire Microtek for $274 million. Microtek’s operation as a manufacturer of disposable equipment and patient drapes coincides with Ecolab’s pesticide and cleaning services for hospitals. Per the merger, Microtek shareholders will get $6.30 for their shares of the company; a 34 percent premium over Tuesday’s closing.

Cell Genesys (Nasdqa: CEGE) announced its second-quarter financials today, reporting a loss of $1.9 million, as compared to a favorable settlement with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), which resulted in a decrease of about $26.8 million. In response to the news, shares of Cell Genesys were up 55 cents, or 17 percent, to $3.83, moving on volume of 3.2 million at the market’s close.

This morning, AXM Pharma (Pink Sheets: AXMP) announced it received a $2.65 million investment from Beida Wei Ming Bio-product Co. through convertible debt financing. After the announcement, shares of AXM rose 4 cents, or 36 percent, settling at 15 cents by the market’s close.
