Superlattice Power Inc. (SLAT.OB) – Answering The Call For A Better Battery

Superlattice Power Inc. has been doing their best to answer the world’s need for superior battery technology. The results have been spectacular, resulting in the first major changes in the battery industry in a number of years. The structure and cathode materials being used by SLAT have been previously attempted by others, but not with the same success. In tests, the new batteries are extending the range, power and spectrum of the devices they are being used to power.

These results are arriving at a great time, as Senator John McCain, the Republican nominee for president, proposed a $300 million prize to the inventor of a better car battery. The prize money would be funded by the US government with the goal of spurring innovation to get Americans off their gasoline habit as the justification. The proposal from McCain comes after he has spent several weeks campaigning against rising energy costs and for alternative energy in the midst of our weak economy.

The demand for batteries to power the next generation of hybrid and electric vehicles continues to grow as oil prices creep closer to $150 per barrel. In addition to the proposed award today for batteries, there is also an Automotive X Prize (AXP) competition sponsored by Progressive currently open to inventors. Superlattice Power, in conjunction with Hybrid Technologies, is already favored as one of the top 10 frontrunners in the AXP competition. Although the prize is significantly smaller, $10 million, the fundamentals of the contest are the same, and could prove that Superlattice Power has what it takes to meet the new power demands of the automotive industry.
