In the morning’s news today, Superlattice Power announced that its North Carolina production facility has produced 200 kg (approx. 440 lb.) of high purity, new nano cathode material. This latest achievement will allow the company to use the material in a battery manufacturing facility for use in electric vehicles.
Superlattice has now committed itself to developing and producing cobalt-free cathode material with superlattice structure on a large scale for high voltage application using a new electrolyte capable of withstanding voltage beyond 5 volts. Dr. Surajit Sengupta and Dr. Vishal Mahajan have taken the charge to perform all research with a Fortune 500 electronics and telecommunication company to develop prototype cells with high energy density.
The Superlattice structure is a hexagonal structure that can accommodate more lithium and more energy. The elements and specialty transition metals have been selected precisely to make Superlattice cathode materials safe, environmentally friendly and less expensive.
