ZAP – Stands for Zero Air Pollution

Zap understands marketing. While it is building its network of dealers it is also leaving no stone unturned when it comes to marketing.

Business 2.0 magazine featured automotive pioneer ZAP in an article entitled the “Top 31 Best Business Ideas in the World,” for the idea of creating a line of fuel-efficient and renewable energy vehicles to tap into the market created by rising energy costs. The article was in the August 2006 issue.

To help counter global warming due to CO2 emissions ZAP is challenging the world to plant one million trees. The challenge was initiated during the launch of its new electric car and truck at The San Francisco International Auto Show in November of 2006.

ZAP’s campaign invites other groups, companies and individuals to join in the planting of trees, is being launched on its new website ZAPTREES.ORG ( http://www.zaptrees.org). One tree will be planted in China for each XEBRA electric car sold. ZAP intends to have one million trees planted by 2010. ZAP has already provided the funding for 50,000 trees to be planted over the next 12 months.

Whether you love him or not, when the President of the United States arrives to personally support your product, that is a marketing coup. George W. Bush made a surprise visit to add his support to ZAP’s Million Tree Challenge at The San Francisco International Auto Show. The President was on-hand in the morning to plant trees with Friends of the Urban Forest in West San Francisco, helping to plant the “sister” tree to the America China Friendship Tree planted in China. Officials from ZAP and Shandong Jindalu were on hand to mark the occasion.

“This is more than just a tree–it’s a bush!” said Bush. “Just smell it! It’s a living, breathing bush.” He plucked a sprig of the olive tree and took a large sniff for emphasis. Then he suddenly held it up in the air and said, “I give to you the international olive branch of peace!” Then he tucked the sprig into his lapel for the remainder of the day.

Later, when asked to hug the tree for cameras, he put one arm around it and said, “That’s as far as I go.”

At a presidential news conference later that day inside The Moscone Center, complete with sounds of “Hail to the Chief,” Bush exhorted car show attendees to stand together for the environment and buy ZAP electric cars. He concluded by pledging to plant 200 trees as part of ZAP’s Million Tree Challenge. Learn more at http://www.zaptrees.org.
