For Earth Day, ZAP has challenged car-buyers to go to their local ZAP dealership for a test drive in one of its new XEBRA (pronounced ‘zebra’) electric cars or trucks. For each test drive through April 30, ZAP will add a tree to its “Million Tree Challenge.”

ZAP’s “Million Tree Challenge” ZAP is challenging individuals, corporations, governments and other groups around the world to fight global warming by driving electric vehicles and helping to plant one million trees by 2010. More than 65,000 trees have been planted so far and ZAP has many tree-planting initiatives happening all over the world.

Green Marketing makes good sense. Studies indicate women are more concerned about the environment than men and are increasingly targeted by green campaigns. Advertisers also identify women as having a key role in influencing male partners and families to become greener. There are signs that men are also receptive to the green message. Cars – which are largely bought by men – marketed as less environmentally damaging have become increasingly popular.

While ethical markets – such as for goods produced organically or with low carbon emissions – are relatively tiny, they are growing fast and attract disproportionate media attention. As the consumer starts to prioritise green issues, campaigns are increasingly promoting companies’ environmental credentials and eco-friendly products.

Brand experts warn that companies that do not communicate environmental policies could be left behind by changing public attitudes or even suffer a backlash. Zap is a perfect example of a Green Company participating in Green Marketing!

ZAP’s XEBRA 100% electric car and truck are now available; some of the only consumer electric vehicles in the US that can meet the need for gas-free, city-speed driving. The XEBRA is considered by ZAP as a ‘city-car,’ an all-electric design for city-speed driving up to 40 mph. Priced about $10,000, they plug into any 110-volt outlet — the same outlet that is found in and outside every home, garage and office.
