Here’s Their History
SSUR — Statsure Diagnostic Sytems, Inc.
Here is the history of Statsure Diagnostic Systems: Inc.
SDS, Inc. was founded in 1990 to develop medical diagnostic with reliable and affordable rapid tests for infectious diseases that collect, process, and analyze samples in a few simple steps, using self- contained, disposable devices.
After years of work and at great expense, the strategy paid off. SDS has a diagnostic tool that can easily and reliably detect selected diseases not only in the physician’s office or hospital laboratory, but outside laboratory settings, in a matter of minutes. That tool is the SDS Hema•Strip™ capillary blood sampler, the core technology in the company’s rapid tests for HIV infection (Hema•Strip HIV 1/2) and for infection with Helicobacter pylori (Hema•Strip™ Stat•Simple pylori™), an infection of the stomach which can cause ulcers and digestive upset.
Extensive studies conducted by SDS around the world, in conjunction with governmental agencies, universities, and private and public laboratories indicate SDS assays meet global standards in sensitivity and specificity. In addition to diagnosing HIV and H. pylori infection, the SDS team has shown that the Hema•Strip™ device can be developed into a tool to diagnose other diseases where prompt detection and treatment is critical, such as hepatitis, malaria, and tuberculosis. In addition to the Hema•Strip™ capillary sampler, SDS has developed other advanced sampling devices which allow the physician, care provider, and others who do testing to obtain specimens rapidly and easily.
Omni•Swab® is a patented, ejectable-head swab which can obtain a sample from the inside of the cheek for genetic testing, eliminating the need for drawing blood. Omni•Sal® is a patented device for the collection, storage, and shipment of oral fluid (saliva). Oral fluid collected with Omni•Sal® has been used to test for HIV and hepatitis infection, drugs of abuse, and cotenine.
While the serum and saliva tests are normally done in a hospital, clinic, or other professional environment, the blood test is entirely self contained and very simple to use. In fact, depending upon local regulations from country to country, the blood test is simple enough to be done by almost anyone, almost anywhere, including not only a physician’s office, a clinic, hospital, or pharmacy, but including testing done on one’s self, in the privacy of one’s own home.
Meeting the Global need for Fast and Easy HIV Testing
SDS is positioned to meet the developing world’s urgent demand for rapid and affordable tests for infectious disease. The World Health Organization (WHO) has estimated that over 90% of new HIV infections are taking place in Asia, Africa and parts of Latin America. Asia itself is considered a major “hotbed” of HIV infection, with one of the fastest growing rates of heterosexually transmitted HIV. SDS is dedicated to introducing methods of rapid, on-the-spot diagnosis into these markets. Making these tests available in these areas will save lives.
Most HIV tests require a clinical laboratory setting, with sophisticated and expensive equipment, constant electricity and refrigeration, and a professional staff. Many HIV tests also take hours to produce results, in a series of carefully timed steps. Testing with slow, capital-intensive assays, or other so-called “rapid tests” which are messy, time consuming, or which require blood drawing, has been the developing world’s only real option for measuring HIV infection.
until Now!Fast, easy H. pylori Test for US and Overseas SDS has developed and recently received United States FDA approval for its rapid antibody test for Helicobacter pylori (H. Pylori), a bacteria believed to cause up to 80% of peptic ulcers and gastric cancers. Roughly a third of the population in the United States is estimated to have been exposed to the bacteria. SDS believes there is no approved H. pylori diagnostic product on the market that is as simple and easy to use with results in only 15 minutes.
