Text-messaging campaigns are becoming easier and easier to sell. Marketing firms understand that a text message campaign is able to deliver networks and broadcasters with key marketing metrics about their target audience. You are seeing them everywhere – televised sporting events, soap operas, prime time events and even local broadcast programs.

Local broadcasters may have more of a struggle with return on investment than large networks because they have a smaller audience. Some broadcasters are securing sponsors for their text campaigns, which generates added revenue. Text campaigns can generate both marketing information and revenue with sponsorships, the campaigns become more lucrative.

The audience response survey can generate more information about a market than even A.C. Nielsen. To gather information you design a text campaign which gathers the data by asking respondents to provide information in return for a prize or special offer. The information gathered is entirely opt-in. You can expet a response rate of approximately five percent.

The key to a successful text campaign is to generate audience response. Text voting works best when the audience response has a direct impact on the outcome of the show.

The “American Idol” text messaging campaign generated 41.5 million text messages during the 12-week run of the show in season four last spring inspired a new demographic groups of wireless subscribers to try text messaging. The text messaging market is expanding daily.

Voting campaigns and premium messaging campaigns are starting to broaden their reach and attract responses from diverse demographic groups.

MMS interoperability is becoming more transparent whcih means MMS could be used to send video content to respondents. Adding full-motion video into these campaigns is crucial and the next big thing. As text messaging campaigns become more prevalent, broadcasters are finding premium SMS campaigns can be great marketing tools and potential revenue generators.
