StockGuru Blog: Lantis Laser – Superior Imaging System at Crucial Time for Early Detection

Lantis LaserStockGuru Profile Lantis – OTC: LSSR.PK

Why the OCT Dental Imaging System(TM) is superior to anything currently available for dentists.

Never has early detection been more important in the dental field. The currently used conventional x-ray and the improved digital x-ray have shortcomings in providing meaningful images of dental structures and they are light years away from being able to provide a dentist with the information necessary for early detection. With the rapidly expanding body of knowledge which supports early detection and treatment for overall patient help – early detection has never been more crucial.

In an imaging study by Wenzel and Fejerskov, the digital x-ray performed the best of three methods at over 70% accuracy. Visual was at 53% and conventional x-ray 48%. Yet the majority of dentists in the U.S., estimated at 75%, still use conventional x-ray as the main imaging modality in their office.

Initial indications are that the OCT System will be responsible for at least 60% of all images taken in-house as the System enables the dentist to capture images that cannot be captured with x-ray:

Detect demineralization of enamel – Cannot be done with x-ray

Detect decay at an early stage – before it shows up on x-ray

Detect decay in occlusal (biting) surfaces – cannot be done with x-ray

Detect secondary caries around restorations at an early stage – cannot be done with x-ray

Document the need for early stage treatment for insurance reimbursement – early stage decay is not visible on traditional x-ray and there is currently no formal means of documenting the need for treatment.

For the first time images of soft tissue (gums) can be captured in the mouth in real time. Stan Baron, President & CEO of Lantis, pointed out that, “OCT provides much more detailed images than x-ray for early detection of decay and can image occlusal (biting) surfaces, a huge advantage over x-ray. OCT is destined to be the modality of choice in the modern dental office.”
