Lantis Laser, with Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT), has exclusive rights to the application of OCT technology in the field of dentistry under its license Agreements with Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and LightLab Imaging.OCT creates a noninvasive technique for imaging subsurface tissue structure with micrometer-scale resolution which serves to catch tooth decay and periodontal disease sooner! Does this matter?

It matters a great deal not just for issues associated with oral health but for over all health.

When health insurance carriers provide dental benefits in an effort to prevent related health issues – the verdict is in: gum disease specifically and oral health generally impacts overall health. (This statement is so important I would like to repeat it but do not want you to think that was a typo!) I would like to paraphrase it:

GUM DISEASE SERIOUSLY IMPACTS OVERALL HEALTH.

Health insurance representatives are stating point blank that preventing gum disease will help control health costs.

Lantis Laser has the exclusive rights to develop OCT technology for dental imaging that will create a new standard in early detection of gum disease and dental decay.

Insurers who offer both dental and medical-care coverage say they expect that spending more on preventive dental care will yield big savings on the medical treatment of costly chronic illnesses.

An estimated 80 percent of American adults have some form of periodontal disease, according to the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research at the National Institutes of Health. Oral health is a widespread health problem in the United States. Oral health issues impact productivity with employed adults losing more than 164 million hours of work each year due to dental disease or dental visits.

The evidence linking poor oral hygiene to medical problems expands monthly. The evidence that gum or periodontal disease puts you at an increased risk for heart attacks, stroke, diabetes and some cancers finds more support each month.

In March, a study published in the New England Journal of Medicine found that treating severe gum disease can improve the function of blood vessel walls, improving heart health in just a matter of months.

The April issue of the Journal of Periodontology published studies that found periodontal bacteria in the arteries of people with heart disease and in the placentas of pregnant women with high blood pressure. Another study in that journal found that gum disease may predispose some people to developing early signs of diabetes.

A Harvard School of Public Health study of more than 50,000 men showed that those who had gum disease had double the risk of pancreatic cancer than those without gum disease.

The data is accumulating that periodontal disease is linked to other diseases, a fact that has NOT gone unnoticed by the nations health insurance industry, and health plans are starting to cover more dental treatments and preventive services.

Lantis Laser offers the ultimate in preventative services.

The ability to image both the teeth and the gums provides the dentist with technology that is able to detect early stage disease in oral tissue AND capture it sooner than has historically been possible with a minimally invasive procedure. The dental application of OCT was discovered and researched by Linda Otis D.D.S., working at University of California in 1996 and the Medical Program Team at Lawrence Livermore Laboratories (”Livermore”), a leading Government research Laboratory.

Because Lantis Laser has the exclusive license with the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and Light Lab Imaging, they will be the only company selling this device in the United States. It is their intention to make this device affordable for the average dentist and they expect demand to be high. OCT is a proven technology in many medical fields.

Lantis Laser is part of the progress of prevention in not just dentistry but general health as well!
