Lantis has the exclusive rights to commercialize the application of OCT in the dental field, under its license Agreements with Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and LightLab Imaging. Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is an example of a “state of the art” optoelectronics with a real-world applications.
OCT in-the-mouth imaging in dentistry has an unprecedented high resolution of up to 10 times dental x-ray and enables dentists to detect very early stages of oral diseases such as decay and periodontal disease. Early detection allows the dentist to employ minimally invasive treatment to enhance the standard of patient care.
Lantis’ OCT Dental Imaging System(TM), currently in Phase II development, addresses the needs of dentists for an affordable, chairside diagnostic imaging system to provide accurate images that can be viewed on a chairside monitor, saved to the patient file, printed or transmitted for insurance purposes or consultation.
What does Phase II Development Mean?
Phase II of Lantis’ development program, means that the OCT Dental Imaging System ™ will be placed in clinical use to confirm and validate the imaging results obtained in Phase 1. Phase II will also refine the usability interface between the dentist and the system, including the revolutionary hand-held “in-the-mouth” optoelectronic scanner that is about the size of a pen. At the end this Phase the final specification for the pre-production unit will be documented and preparation started for the transition to manufacturing.
This means that the path to become the standard for high level imaging of dental tissue is ONE STEP CLOSER. Becoming THE STANDARD is precisely where Lantis is headed. Their goal is to provide the standard high-resolution “in-the-mouth” diagnostic imaging system in the field of dentistry. Lantis is building their path towards standardization through the Phase II development and the clinical trials and experience in Phase II are the next step in the path to accomplish this.
Stay tuned for more on the path to becoming the Industry Standard and what that means for Lantis.
