StockGuru Blog: Hybrid Technologies (HYBR) – Its All In The Battery

It’s All In The Battery

Demand for Hybrid Technologies products has increased significantly in recent months, with oil prices continuing to climb and more drivers looking for an alternative to traditional gas-powered vehicles.

HYBR’s Research and Development Division announced in February successful production of HYBR’s new Lithium Ion Polymer battery, consisting of a new cathode material with a “Superlattice Structure” , allowing electric vehicles to be driven over 200 miles compared to the current 120 to 140 mile range. The pure material was produced in-house and has been synthesized at an industrial scale.

The Company’s advanced battery technology offers some of the industry’s fastest charger systems. The high density and lightweight lithium-ion batteries can be charged by simply plugging them into a common household electrical outlet.

The lithium power system’s Advanced Drive System Technology consists of an integrated network of high performance components that is adaptable to multiple energy sources and is capable of powering a wide variety of end-user product applications.

The battery packs importantly offer “Plug-in” technology. The cars are charged by plugging in any 110 AC outlet for 4-7 hours.

Growth and Development

After development of a New Generation 3kw prototype, on February 5, 2004 HYBR announced the initiation of a lithium-ion conversion project with the United States Navy.
The prototype project was successfully completed and delivered to the Navy. The NYC Taxi Commission agreed to test a PT Cruiser which was delivered in early 2007. Paratransit, Sacramento, California, a company providing community transportation services, purchased two converted PT Cruisers. HYBR signed a Space Act agreement with NASA and several vehicles are being tested by NASA at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The company is also constructing a demonstration “green” home in Calgary, Alberta. As of mid-2007, HYBR was the only innovative company selling consumer ready electric-powered vehicles from its website (www.hybridtechnologies.com). HYBR signed an agreement in mid 2007 for the Canadian Ministry of Transportation to purchase a Smart Car and PT Cruiser. In September 2007, the Company signed a contract to provide a PT Cruiser to Arcadis, a contractor to the U.S. Environmental Protection Administration.

Price Reduction Over Oil

February 11, 2008 HYBR announced substantial price reductions on the Smart Car, Mini Cooper, and PT Cruiser. In contrast to the continual increase in gas prices, the reduction in lithium ion battery costs allow HYBR to pass savings along to their customers. With fuel prices at record high levels and the global focus moving rapidly towards addressing pollution, the needs for sustainable, zero emission energy and more cost savings are ever more in demand. The future for lithium production speaks favorable in terms of availability and lower costs. Management at HYBR foresees the lithium industry as one of the fastest growing segments within the global economy.

The Electric Power Research Institute found widespread adoption of plug-in hybrids in the United States could reduce greenhouse emissions in 2050 by more than 450 million metric tons a year, the output of 82.5 million cars. Since most travel is about 30 miles/day this may be the cleanest personal transportation system presently available.

HYBR is leading in the development and marketing of lithium-powered products worldwide. With its proven technology, the company is now poised to set up a Dealer/Distributor network in North America and license its technology to other automotive manufacturers.
