Harvard Learning Center: Accessing Serious Scholarship Money with PSAT/SAT Test Scores
Stock Guru Profile Harvard Learning Center
Harvard Learning Center Capitalizing on the Reality of the Impossible World of College Admissions
Harvard Learning Center levels the playing field with ACT and SAT test preparation and that all important PSAT – the test upon which the National Merit Scholarship program is based. These test scores mean real money for real students if the scores are high enough.
Merit-based scholarships go to students who are superb academic performers and their abilities are measured by ACT/SAT test scores and grades. An “A” from one high school may not be the equivalent of an “A” at a different high school. The ACT/SAT allows a closer evaluation of a student’s academic preparation.
Merit-based scholarships are usually awarded on a competitively. Examples of these are the National Merit Scholarships. Test prep courses are almost as basic as the tests themselves in this environment in preparing for these tests. And that’s where HVLN comes in.
The National Merit Scholarship Program is important because there are specific awards associated with the program and it is wholly based on a student’s PSAT score. However, equally as important and possibly more important is the fact the certain academic institutions have their own separate awards based on these very important test scores.
High school students enter the National Merit Program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT) – a test which serves as an initial screen of approximately 1.4 million entrants each year–and by meeting published program entry/participation requirements. The PSAT is taken the third year in grades 9 through 12.
Of the 1.4 million entrants, some 50,000 with the highest PSAT/NMSQT® Selection Index scores (critical reading + mathematics + writing skills scores) qualify for recognition in the National Merit® Scholarship Program.
Beginning in March and continuing to mid-June, NMSC notifies approximately 8,200 Finalists that they have been selected to receive a Merit Scholarship® award. Merit Scholarship awards are of three types.
Corporate-sponsored Merit Scholarship awards
College-sponsored Merit Scholarship awards
Special Scholarships
As college admissions become more and more competitive, test preparation becomes a larger part of the academic process and Harvard Learning Center’s program appeals to students that require a structured environment and those that have the self discipline necessary to adapt to an online learning experience.
