The solar industry’s trade group, the Solar Energy Industry Assn., released the findings in the first annual 2006 U.S. Solar Industry Year in Review — U.S. Solar Energy Industry Charging Ahead. EnviroMission has targeted a solar friendly region of the United States.
“Due to increased customer and utility demand, the U.S. solar energy industry saw record growth in 2006,” SEIA’s report said. “The Energy Policy Act of 2005 took effect in Jan. 2006, providing significant tax credits for solar installation, and the California Solar Initiative was passed [in August 2006] with $3.35 billion in funding for new systems in the state.”
“The southwestern United States possesses a world class, well-distributed, and nearly untapped solar energy resource,” SEIA’s report said. “It is most abundant in California, Nevada, Arizona, and New Mexico, and can ultimately support CSP plants with a capacity of hundreds of gigawatts.”
Concerning Commercial Solar Power technology, SEIA’s report noted that the Commercial Solar Power industry has had a “milestone” year-to-date in 2006, with several notable projects.
Total contracts signed in 2006 for CSP (including additional capacity options not listed) cover approximately 2,339 MW of new CSP power in the U.S., to be located mostly in the Southwest.
Enviromission plans to be part of the renewable energy process in the United States.
