Serious Research Behind Hydratus (Part Two)
Stock GuruProfile – OTCBB: ETLY – ECOtality, Inc.- The Fuel Cell Store
While I think the Fuel Cell Store is a fabulous idea for revenue it’s important to understand there is a very serious product in development here: the Hydratus! This is a part of the master business plan which involves many different approaches to alternative energy.
This is a serious product with serious research behind it — and when the Hydratus is ready to market the Fuel Cell Store will be a well established retail outlet. The Hydratus is a portable apparatus that operates in conjunction with existing hydrogen fuel cell technology and is a patented technology of ECOtality, Inc.
Dream Team for Research and Development
ASU has joined ECOtality’s current science team that includes the National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s (NASA) Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) Task Force, GreenMountain Engineering and Airboss Aerospace in developing Hydratus and related technologies.
GreenMountain Engineering, LLC
ECOtality has an agreement with GreenMountain Engineering, LLC to act as consulting engineers on the Hydratus project. GreenMountain Engineering is working with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s (”NASA”) Jet Propulsion Laboratory (”JPL”) and Airboss Aerospace, Inc. in the research, development, and testing of a 5-10 kW stationary Hydratus system for remote and residential use.
GreenMountain Engineering has extensive experience, knowledge, and expertise in the clean technology sector. GreenMountain Engineering expertise allows ECOtality to act quickly upon the recent Hydratus breakthroughs from the Jet Propulsion Laboratory. The contribution is a pivotal step in the development of a Hydratus prototype.
NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory
The National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s (NASA) Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) Task Force has reported improved performance breakthroughs in the development of ECOtality’s Hydratus(TM) technology.
In Phase II the Jet Propulsion Laboratory reports that hydrogen storage capacity in a laboratory unit, based on fuel alone, has increased from 4.7 percent to between 8 and 9 percent; the storage capacity is dependent on the mode of operation. This is expected to exceed the Department of Energy’s (DOE) 2010 goal of 6 percent hydrogen storage by weight for an entire system including tanks and plumbing.
Ira A. Fulton School of Engineering, Arizona State University
The Ira A. Fulton School of Engineering at Arizona State University serves more than 4,500 undergraduates and 1,500 graduate students, providing skills and knowledge for science and technology-oriented careers. Ranked nationally in the top 50 among more than 185 engineering schools rated by US News & World Report magazine, the school engages in use-inspired research in a multidisciplinary setting for the benefit of individuals, society and the environment. Its 200-plus faculty members pursue research in electrical, industrial, chemical, mechanical, aerospace, civil and environmental engineering, bioengineering and computer science.
Critical results from the advancement of Hydratus to Phase II are expected to include:
* Hydrogen storage, and output, increase of 70 to 90 percent
* Meet or exceed DOE 2010 goals for hydrogen storage and weight
* Reduced temperature results in ability to use reduced cost materials
* Reduced system complexity results in reduced cost and size
* Regeneration efficiency increased by approximately 400 percent
As a result of these performance breakthroughs, ECOtality also intends to develop a 7kW prototype to power various commercial applications. This is in addition of a 65kW Hydratus system, suitable for a bus application that the company previously announced.
ECOtality believes this technology will be implemented in a proof of concept vehicle in the second half of 2007.
Hydratus addresses the commercialization issues facing hydrogen fuel cell technologies by producing hydrogen on-demand — using magnesium and water — in a system that emits no exhaust other than pure water.
The Fuel Cell Store will serve as a well established outlet for this vital product.
Fuel Cells, which are portable, provide power for residential and commercial users in situations where grid power is not convenient or not available.
ECOtality is making this happen with collaborative research with the leading universities in the world on this subject, The Fuel Cell Store, their very cool blog, real world products, and educational products.
Don’t forget the Fuel Cell Store Blog.
