Delta Mining and Exploration. Diamonds are a Growth Industry. There is expected to be continued demand for diamonds worldwide with an upward growth progression.
China is likely to become a world center of diamond trade as the number of wealthy people there is growing rapidly, and may eventually overtake the United States as the biggest market, noted Eli Avidar, managing director of Israel Diamond Institute (IDI). There are some 150-200 million people in China that are already wealthy to European standards and acquiring international spending habits, including buying diamonds.
Their number is expected to grow rapidly as about a half million Chinese university graduates a year were ready “to join the party” of westernization, Avidar told Reuters.
“That is why we believe that China and the Asia Pacific region will increase (as diamond markets) in 2007 and in years to come,” he said late on Sunday on the margins of an international jewelery fair in the northern Italian city of Vicenza.
“China will become a major player in consumption of diamonds in the world. To become the major, they will have to pass the United States. It will take time. But if the things evolve in the same direction they do now, it will happen, eventually.”
Avidar said China’s recent decision to slash a value added tax on polished diamonds would encourage international companies to sell diamonds directly there instead of going through Hong Kong as many do now.
According to a study by the Gems and Jewelery Export Promotion Council and consulting firm KPMG released in December, China will emerge as a strong global player with a 21 percent share of diamond processing by 2015.
Delta Mining and Exploration received a report on the samples processed from their Montana target. The micro-probe analysis to determine kimberlite provenance and/or specific mineral chemistry was positive. Link here for report.
