The article, titled “The Quest for a Natural Sugar Substitute,” provides history on stevia and the beverage industry’s quest to find enhanced flavor profiles and cost-effective refining processes.

“As badly as stevia needs the soft-drink companies, the soft-drink companies may need stevia even more,” writes the author.

Specifically delving into ongoing research in the areas beyond Reb A, the most commonly used stevia sweetener today, the article highlights next-generation sweeteners like Reb D and X (or M), which could be game changers for the industry.
