Spare Backup Inc. (SPBU.OB) Announces Bundling of Its Software in all Sony VAIO PCs Shipped to Retailmarc

Breaking through the new software barrier toward solid profit is one of the more difficult accomplishments for software developers. Every other garage seems to have a software designer in it these days. Each designer feels that they are the one who has the next big thing to hit the market. Actually, having the next big thing is the hard part; getting it to market the next hardest part. But, if a company can crack the new software barrier, there is the potential for large rewards.

Spare Backup Inc., a software development company, works to offer computer software products to home users and small and mid-sized companies. Its primary product is designed to back up data through Internet transfer to a safe location. The company has been selling its products online and through retailers, but has now announced that Sony VAIO computers will include its backup product as a standard option for retail sales.

The company’s product is customizable. Where this product shines, however, is in its ability to transfer data from one computer to another easily. In the past, loading disks or manually moving files made the process of upgrading to a new computer time-consuming and annoying. The company’s products simplify the process while adding the feature of a timed and customizable back-up service to an off-site location.

In recent days, the company has come to a positive tipping point of sorts. It feels that it has reached a point where it can project earnings from a fairly accurate perspective. Generally, this is a fairly significant point in a newer company’s history. For 2008, the company sees revenue coming in at $3-6 million with 2009 revenue reaching $16-24 million. Further, it feels that the fourth quarter is when this tipping point will be seen, as new contracts begin to produce results. The company and supporters feel the company has a winning software product and is now ready to reap the rewards. Since there is an opt-out feature for bundled sales, time will tell if this is truly that projected winner.
