Solar Power Inc. (SOPW.OB) Inks Design and Construction Contract with BLT Enterprises

Integrated solar developer Solar Power Inc. today announced a contract with BLT Enterprises in which Solar Power will design and construct a 397 kW photovoltaic (PV) solar system for BLT Enterprises’ Fremont Recycling and Transfer Station (FRTS) in California.

FRTS is responsible for the recycling and disposal needs for residents of Fremont, Newark and Union City, California.

In 2009, FRTS recycled nearly 14,000 tons of material. Implementing Solar Power’s PV system with BLT’s current green initiatives will position it as one of the most environmentally friendly operations in the San Francisco Bay Area.

“We are very pleased to be adding this solar system to our Fremont operation,” Shawn Guttersen, vice president of BLT Enterprises stated in the press release. “It is a complement to our core values and mission to provide the means for environmentally responsible recycling and disposal of waste materials produced by communities across California.”

Solar Power’s system will include 1,776 solar modules mounted on rooftop racking and parking shade structures with the capability to generate more than 576,000 kWh of electricity, resulting in more than $128,000 in savings during its first year of operation.

Over the duration of 25 years the system will cut FRTS’ electrical utility costs by more than $4.24 million.
