Advanced Medical Isotope has finalized a sole-source contract with Kennewick General Hospital of Kennewick, Washington for the supply of short-lived radioisotopes primarily used in Positron emission tomography (PET) as well as for other medical isotopes utilized for diagnostic imaging and for therapeutic applications.
Positron emission tomography (PET) has rapidly become a preferred scanning technique in medical research. A PET scanner utilizes radiation emitted from a patient to develop three dimensional images that assist in diagnosis with greater clarity than Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) alone, and with computed tomography (CT) provides exceptionally detailed images for various types of cancers, cardiac disease and brain function.
AMIC CEO James C. Katzaroff said, “We are quite pleased to assist further in our region’s health care needs and be a local source for the production of radioisotopes. AMIC has a passionate mission to deliver high quality medical isotopes to assist those in need, and we look forward to partnering with Kennewick General Hospital in order to help maintain a high standard of health care in our area.”
Glen Marshall, Chief Executive Officer of Kennewick General Hospital stated that, “Kennewick General Hospital recently acquired a new Philips Gemini GXL PET/CT system combining computed tomography (CT) and positron emission tomography (PET) in one scanner. We are very pleased to be able to offer our patients this important advancement in diagnostic imaging, and being able to partner with a local, quality company like AMIC will certainly bring added value to our services.”
