Reed’s Ginger Brew story began in 1987 when its founder, Mr. Chris Reed, began looking for a way to benefit from the healthy properties of ginger. To pursue his mission, he quit his job as a chemical engineer and began developing what later became Reed’s Original Ginger Brew.
In the company’s early stages, Chris was the manufacturer, bottler and delivery man. He would pack his VW beetle full of the bottled brew and then deliver it from store to store throughout LA and southern California. The popularity of the ginger brews grew very quickly and today Reed’s can be found in many natural gourmet, specialty, and even mainstream grocery store aisles.
In 1991, the specialty drink received top honors from the United States National Association of the Specialty Food Trade and from the Canadian Fancy Food Association. Throughout the 1190’s, Reed’s launched new Ginger Brew varieties and began introducing other ginger products such as Crystallized Ginger Candy, Ginger Chews, and three Ginger Ice Creams.
The company’s rapid growth still continues today as sales numbers increase to reach new highs. In the Company’s latest quarterly report, Reed’s announced that net sales increased over a million dollars, or 52.2% compared to the same time period last year. There is further potential for future growth as the multi-million dollar beverage industry offers Reed’s plenty of room to grow.
