Popular Mechanics Takes a First Look at Hybrid Technologies, Inc. (HYBR.OB) New Supercar

Recently, Hybrid Technologies, Inc. (HYBR.OB) shared its much-anticipated, high-performance sports car with Popular Mechanics. Hybrid is one of the emerging leaders in the development of 100 percent electric-powered products worldwide.

The Progressive Automotive X Prize (AXP) competition, sponsored by Progressive Insurance, has inspired Hybrid to develop its latest entry into the highly-competitive electric vehicle market. Those at Popular Mechanics who have seen the vehicle report that Hybrid’s super car “crushes Prius and Corvette.”

Ron Cerven, a project development engineer, stated that the AXP car’s design will center on the drivetrain and the passenger’s level of comfort. In many exotic vehicles, the passenger’s comfort is oftentimes overlooked. When asked if the AXP car would hit the 600+ horsepower level, Cerven replied that Popular Mechanics was “way out of the ballpark—it’s gonna be wild.”

The AXP entry, a hybrid that combines fuel with lithium-ion technology, is expected to reach a minimum of 220 mpg. The mainstream all-electric model is expected to reach a range of 150 to 180 miles per charge. A driveable prototype is scheduled for completion in September 2008.
