Microalgae is a different type of oil crop which holds great promise for the future. Plants such as soybeans and sunflowers produce oil, but they require intensive management and may not be able to sustain in the long term due to rising development and production costs.
Microalgae has been proven to be capable of producing over 30 times more oil per acre then corn and soybean crops. There is great potential as it contains no sulfur, is non-toxic, and is highly biodegradable.
