Perma-Fix Environmental Services Inc. (NASDAQ: PESI): Waste not, But If You Do, Perma-Fix is There

They say “Waste not, Want not”, but when waste is unavoidable, Perma-Fix is a company that deals with it to their customers’ satisfaction. Founded in 1990, Perma-Fix has nine major waste treatment and processing facilities. The company went public in 1992 to provide for a series of acquisitions of mainly industrial wastewater technologies and facilities. They have completed 14 acquisitions since 1990. Today, the company also has five service centers and one consulting office in the United States.

Perma-Fix Environmental Services Inc. has three primary business segments: Industrial, Nuclear, and Engineering. Their Industrial Services segment provides treatment processing and recycling of hazardous and non-hazardous waste. Their Nuclear Services segment operates three facilities and a field service group. Perma-Fix has two patents and eleven pending patent applications. Their flagship proprietary Perma-Fix Process, is a treatment technology that converts hazardous waste into non-hazardous material. Their Perma-Fix II is a patent pending, multi-step treatment process that converts hazardous organic components into non-hazardous material.

Perma-Fix’s Treatment Storage and Disposal (TSD) Facilities are treatment plants for hazardous and non-hazardous industrial wastes, and/or mixed (radioactive and hazardous) wastes. Perma-Fix has ten of these locations. Their Government Services division has headquarters in the Perma-Fix of Orlando facility in Orlando, Florida. Perma-Fix’s Consulting and Engineering has headquarters in St. Louis at Schreiber, Yonley and Associates. They provide services to clients across America.

Today, Perma-Fix Environmental Services Inc. reported results for the second quarter ended June 30, 2008. Revenue for the Nuclear Segment increased to $15.0 million versus $13.0 million for the same period last year. The company is working to further shareholder growth. They are focusing on nuclear services to help drive this growth. These nuclear services include radioactive and mixed-waste treatment services for hospitals, research labs, and research institutions. They also serve federal agencies, including the Department of Energy and the Department of Defense, and nuclear utilities. Perma-Fix sees this focus as a promising avenue whereby the company can turn waste into wads of cash flow for their investors.
