Who would have thought that seaweed was valuable? The answer is nobody. Nobody except for Origin Oil, that is. Origin Oil may have come up with a groundbreaking technology that that will transform algae, one of the world’s most promising sources of renewable oil, into a true competitor with petroleum.
The California-based company, incorporated in Nevada in 2007, explains that much of the world’s oil and gas is made up of ancient algae deposits. The technology developed at Origin will produce “new oil” from algae, through a cost-effective, high-speed manufacturing process.
Perhaps the most unique feature of Origin’s plan is that it is so different from normal oil production. It actually protects the environment. Other oil-producing feedstock such as corn and sugarcane often destroy vital farmlands and rain forests, disrupt global food supplies and creating environmental problems. The technology developed by Origin is targeted at fundamentally changing the source of oil without disrupting the environment or food supplies.
Led by CEO T. Riggs Eckelberry, Origin has an eye on the future. Eckelberry brings an array of technology experience, being one of the key leaders in the success of Yellowbook.com and Panda Software. Eckelberry has surrounded himself with a team of technology veterans who bring not only a history of experience but likely success to Origin.
If the new algae developments are successful, Origin may become a household name in the near future.
