Newport Digital Technologies, Inc. announced earlier today the opening of an RFID sales and research and development (R&D) office in Bentonville, Arkansas to support the company’s introduction of end-to-end RFID solutions to the supply chain and retail market places. The newly appointed RFID Lab Manager and Wal-Mart Account Manager will report directly to NPDT Chief Operating Officer Weiling Tsao and will work closely with NPDT’s Taiwan-based R&D partners, the Institute for Information Industry (III) and Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI).
“We enthusiastically welcome both Matthew and Joseph to our management team,” stated Mr. Tsao. “These gentlemen bring a wealth and experience in the RFID field. Their training, work experience and proximity to Wal-Mart, the world’s largest retailer who is clearly committed to leveraging all that RFID technology has to offer, gives NPDT tremendous resources as we work to launch our RFID solutions.”
“For the past four years I have been immersed in the field of RFID, as applicable predominately to supply chain optimization within the fast moving consumer goods industry,” said Joseph Ray, who will focus on sales and deployment of RFID solutions for NPDT. “While focusing on business practices concerning the effective, efficient deployment of RFID, two years of exposure to innovative implementation alternatives at the University of Arkansas RFID Research Center helped solidify my understanding of both the opportunities and limitations of this technology. After continuing my RFID career for another two years at Motorola, both in the technical and sales roles, I believe I hold a firm understanding of product development and expectations within the industry as a whole.”
“By joining NPDT, I hope to bridge the gap between the ‘thought leadership’ of a University, and the streamline effectiveness of bringing a quality product to market like a large corporation,” Mr. Ray added. “NPDT’s position in this market makes it an ideal candidate for rapid growth. Being located in Bentonville, the hub for RFID deployment in the near future, we pose ourselves to be ready to react to the rapid market changes, something that is imperative in the early stages of a technology.”
“For the past six years, I have served in the scientific community as a translator across the business/scientific spectrum,” stated Matthew Jones, who will head up RFID product testing, specification and compliance for NPDT. “With a strong background in physics and engineering, my interests focused on electromagnetic radiation and antenna design. This led me to become the Lab Testing Manager at the University of Arkansas/ITRI RFID Research Center. While there, I was responsible for establishing and conducting EPCglobal certified RFID research, project development and management, independent testing of RFID vendor equipment, development and maintenance of certified testing methodologies, lab accreditation and cyclical quality control integrity. In joining NPDT, I will be able to leverage my experience to bring exciting RFID technologies to market.”
“From my vantage point, RFID is on the verge of becoming a central technology in all business processes at every level,” Mr. Jones continued. “Our goal at NPDT is to bring high quality and cost efficient RFID solutions to market that will create marked and sustainable efficiencies. I am joining NPDT because I believe that they have the resources and technology and are now at ground zero for RFID implementation.”
