Neutra Corp. (NTRR) Preps New Test for Booming Cannabis Quality Control Market

As testing continues on Neutra Corp.’s innovative new disposable contaminants test for medical marijuana (MMJ), the marketplace for cannabis testing in the U.S. continues to grow. Twenty states and Washington, D.C., now allow MMJ prescriptions, with Connecticut and Washington state requiring testing for adulterants.

More states are following suit, leading to a boom in the nascent cannabis testing industry, says NTRR CEO Sydney Jim.

“With few rules in place, all sorts of things not visible to the naked eye have been found in MMJ, from mold and mildew to insect parts, salmonella and pesticides,” Mr. Jim said. “Soon, our revolutionary testing product will make contamination analysis faster and easier than it’s ever been before.”

The health effects of MMJ tainted with mold, mildew and other contaminants isn’t yet fully clear, but a study published earlier this year by the Journal of Toxicology found that pesticide residues on cannabis are transferred to inhaled marijuana smoke, potentially posing a “significant toxicological threat.”

To combat the threat, NTRR is designing a disposable testing system to give patients and retailers in the rapidly growing MMJ industry a closer, more detailed look at the plants they’re buying, selling and consuming. If successful, the innovative system could help NTRR capture a big share of a testing market poised for unprecedented growth as more and more states sign MMJ laws.
