With deadly, antibiotic-resistant bacteria increasingly putting athletes’ lives and league profits at risk, Neutra Corp. is poised to deliver a new technology that can help eliminate the risk of infection in gyms and locker rooms everywhere.
Multi-billion-dollar sports leagues such as the NFL, NHL and NCAA are currently dealing with serious safety issues not only on the field of play, but inside training facilities, as well. Thanks to difficult-to-treat strains of staph infection such as Methicillin-resistant Stahylococcus aureus (MRSA), scrapes and cuts can be every bit as dangerous as the hard hits and concussions that have grabbed headlines recently.
In 2006, five football players from the Washington Redskins were afflicted with MRSA, with lineman Brandon Noble nearly losing a leg to the infection. Earlier this month, three Tampa Bay Buccaneers were diagnosed with the same infection. The disease can be fatal: Former Missouri State University football player Michael Keck died of complications from a staph infection just this week.
NTRR and joint venture partner Surface to Air Solutions (S2O2) are moving forward with the acquisition of a company working to help eliminate the risk of staph infections among athletes. S2O2 is targeting a Texas-based firm that has developed a potentially lucrative anti-microbial coating capable of adhering to sporting equipment and facilities, preventing viral and bacterial contamination.
“This cutting-edge technology is capable of eliminating the risk of sports equipment, facilities, towels and other shared surfaces being infested with deadly bacteria,” said NTRR CEO Sydney Jim. “It’s the best, most practical way for the world’s most successful sports organizations to protect their athletes and their investments.”
