The State government decided to escalate the 34-planed transportation projects. They were planned to start 2009 or later, but now they are being moved up as part of a statewide economic stimulus project. The need is clearly great there as the State’s bridges are in dire need of repairs according to many transportation officials.
Many of these projects address old bridges that need structural deficiencies identified. The Company’s technologies do just this. They are able to identify where the old bridges need repair or if they do not. This saves a tremendous amount of costs. The technology also reduces the need for future repair jobs since it identifies almost all of the structural deficiencies unlike manual searches that miss many of the internal problems.
Their technology is extremely advantageous for Michigan state taxpayers as it identifies the problem areas at the lowest cost as quickly as possible. As Michigan faces many transportation problems, they are stretched thin even with the $150 million according to a State transportation official. Therefore, it is easy to see how the company’s technology will help.
Material Technologies is an engineering research company that has developed a proprietary way to inspect metal fatigue in bridges and Metal structures. This is done with its patented (EMS) technology. These products have a wide spectrum of uses on many US bridges and have also shown promising results evaluating windmills and antenna towers, highway signs and aircraft, equipment used in the oil industry, as well as other metal structures subject to fatigue loadings. The company has had widespread interest from foreign countries. They also hold a number of patents in fatigue inspection and continue to research further technologies.
