Pulse 87 FM, WNYZ-LP, has quickly become New York’s hottest dance music radio station playing top 40 hits, exclusive remixes and the hottest pop songs today. The station has been drawing in loyal listeners from other New York stations because of the real dance music and limited commercial interruptions. Thus far, 2008 has been a great year in the world of dance music, and Pulse 87 has been capitalizing. Emerging stars like Rhianna and Cascada are making sure there is a lot of danceable R&B and pop right now that is a perfect fit for the dance community.
In addition to a great mix of dance music, Pulse 87 has also recruited the talents of Star & Buc Wild, the long-time, New York morning show hosts. Star & Buc Wild bring a large audience with them from New Jersey, Pennsylvania and the five boroughs of New York City. Sean Ross, a writer from theinfinitedial.com, summed up Pulse 87’s lineup by breaking it down as: 40% freestyle and lost ’80s/early ’90s dance; about 20% current pure dance product; and 40% dance remixes of current pop and R&B hits.
The feedback on Ross’ article has been immense. It seems that Pulse 87 has answered the need New Yorker’s have for a full-time dance music station. Listeners to rival stations Z100 and KTU have been switching to Pulse 87 for the nonstop hits of today and the classics remixed into exclusive Pulse 87 originals. The ratings agree with this switch, and have been increasing steadily with time. This trend can also be noticed in the increased advertising contracts and hits to the company’s website and Myspace page.
