Material Technologies Inc. (MTTG.OB) Holds Patents of Technology that can Identify Microscopic Cracks in Metal Structures

This Engineering research company has developed a proprietary way to detect, measure and monitor metal stress. It holds numerous patents on technology and a few of their products include: the Electrochemical Fatigue Sensor and the Fatigue Sensor. These products have a wide spectrum of uses on many US bridges and have also shown promising results evaluating windmills and antenna towers, highway signs and aircraft, equipment used in the oil industry, as well as other metal structures subject to fatigue loadings.

Its flagship product the Electrochemical Fatigue Sensor or (EMS) is used to inspect cracks in metal structures. When the EMS is used it can detect if there are actively growing fatigue cracks in the metal structure. The process begins with placing the EMS on a fatigue sensitive area of the Metal structure. An electrolyte is then injected and a small current is run through, the EMS then monitors any changes in the electrical current. The machine computes the level of stress, how bad the crack is, and if repair is needed. One of the major advantages of this product is its ability to detect cracks that the human eye cannot.

Another product offered by Material Technologies is the Fatigue Fuse. It consists of a strip of Metal notches that have varying stress concentrations. The strips are bonded to Metal structures and each strip experiences structural strain until a crack begins and severs the connection. This represents the amount of fatigue damage experienced by the Structure since the Fatigue Fuse was put on. In addition the military has also taken notices for use in their aluminum bridges and the product is currently being evaluated.
