Liberty Star Uranium and Metals Corp. is an Arizona-based mineral exploration company engaged in the acquisition and exploration of mineral properties in Arizona and Alaska. Liberty also has a bit of a global presence by controlling properties in Sonora, Mexico in addition to controlling 250 square miles of some of North America’s richest mineralized regions for uranium, copper, gold, silver and molybdenum. Today, Liberty announced it has identified 12 new targets for future exploration.
The 12 targets identified are located at Liberty’s Big Chunk Super Project (BCSP) which is located within southwestern Alaska. Liberty’s BCSP comprises of 707 State of Alaska mining claims covering about 177 square miles in the Lake Iliamna region of the state. Liberty CEO James A. Briscoe had identified these 12 targets which was made possible by his extensive work in the porphyry copper-gold-silver-moly bearing caldera at Silver Bell, Arizona and his recent reinterpretation of data over the recent BCSP lands collected in 2004-2005.
The results of the 2004-2005 exploration work bolstered Briscoe’s belief that there may be more porphyry centers and associated Carlin Style and Round Mountain Style stand-alone gold deposits to be discovered within the Big Chunk caldera.
Liberty contracted GeoTech Ltd. in June of 2009 to conduct helicopter-borne ZTEM surveys over the South Block of the BCSP claims area. The surveys confirmed Briscoe’s projections were even stronger than the company initially anticipated.
When asked about this project, Briscoe was quoted as saying, “While the final processing of the ZTEM information is ongoing, it appears that no fewer than 12 targets, based on geochemical patterns at Big Chunk, should undergo further exploration, including core-sample drilling as early as summer, 2010.”
