International Stem Cell Corp. (ISCO) Subsidiary Uses Stem Cells to Reverse Effects of Aging

Lifeline Skin Care, a subsidiary of International Stem Cell Corporation, is focused on the development and marketing of the only skin care products in the world that are based upon non-embryonic human stem cell extracts. It is because of its relationship with ISCO that it has access to what are called parthenogenetic stem cells (hpSCs), stem cells that are unique in their qualities among all stem cell types.

Although parthenogenetic stem cells have the potential to differentiate into various types of cell types, they do not require the use or destruction of a human embryo. They are generated using unfertilized human eggs, which provides an additional benefit in that parthenogenetic stem cells carry a duplicate set of human leukocyte antigen genes. This greatly reduces the possibility of the derived cells being rejected by a patient’s immune system, eliminating this major stumbling block in the successful application of stem cell technology to the treatment of disease.

At Lifeline Skin Care, these highly-potent stem cells are designed to stimulate the skin’s own ability to repair itself, encouraging the development of smooth and beautiful skin through the building of millions of new, young, healthy skin cells. Positive results have been confirmed with independent clinical studies that show a 93% improvement in skin hydration and a 73% improvement in skin elasticity, with a 67% decrease in wrinkle appearance. It also improves skin tone and brightness.

With age, human stem cells lose their potency, and the skin’s ability to repair itself diminishes. The result can be fine lines, wrinkles, age spots, and sagging skin. But non-embryonic stem cells, the same stem cells active early in life, are highly potent, and the company’s anti-aging stem cell serums tap into the potency of these stem cells to renew skin.
