When combustion engines are used to drive a short distance; unburned fuel, water and acids collect in the crankcase. These contaminants build quickly after just a few weeks and slowly turn to sludge which will lower the potency of the engine, and if done long enough, cease its operation.
Hybrid’s vehicles are run off lithium batteries and do not suffer from being driven short distances. Their cars can be run both short and long distances; the Smart Car model can run 150 miles on a 4-5 charge.
