Hybrid Technologies, Inc. (HYBR.OB) Named as One of the Top 10 Early Contenders for the Automotive X Prize

Hybrid Technologies, Inc. (HYBR.OB), an emerging leader in the development and marketing of lithium-powered products worldwide, was recently named as one of the top 10 early contenders for Popular Mechanic’s Automotive X Prize, a $10 million competition to determine the most fuel-efficient cars in the world. The 64 entrants were evaluated on six factors: technological feasibility, fuel economy, design, performance, price, and production reality.

Hybrid Technologies has developed various chemistries internally for lithium-ion batteries, and has already surpassed the 100-mile-per-charge threshold. The winning X Prize vehicle will feature the following performance and aerodynamic specifications: charge between 100 and 120 miles; top speeds from 70 to 120 mph; engine power ranging from 48 to 78 kW; and full charges anywhere from six to 10 hours. In addition, the judges have test driven three of Hybrid Technology’s all-electric vehicles – the roadster, a Mini Cooper and a motorcycle – and were impressed with each vehicle’s performance.

Since Hybrid Technologies is not currently producing on a mass scale, the company will focus its development strategy on the X Prize to further fund future growth initiatives. Hybrid Technologies vehicles emit zero emissions, unlike many popular hybrids on the market today. Rising fuel costs and environmental concerns will continue to support the sales of hybrid and electric cars, trucks and motorcycles. According to a recent article in the New York Times, fully electric vehicles with zero emissions are fast emerging as the most promising new technology.
