Having the patent to a product that, in effect, runs the world’s electronics is the true essence of being in the driver’s seat. Capitalizing on that patent is another thing altogether. When everyone knows how the patent works and are all too ready to copy and use it without paying for it, protecting the patent (and capitalizing on it) becomes the game at hand. A company that can do so finds profit. A company that can’t runs out of time, and optimum profit, much more quickly.
Patriot Scientific Inc., an intellectual property patent management company, works with a 50-percent ownership partner to protect and manage highly profitable intellectual property rights. The company, along with its partner, The TPL Group, manages patents that are considered the basis of electronic semi-conductor manufacture in the world today. End-use products that utilize these patents include: computers, cameras, printers, wireless devices, and just about anything that requires a semi-conductor. To demonstrate how pervasive these patents are, patent licensees relying on Patriot and TPL Group technologies include (but are not limited to): Intel, Olympus, Lexmark, Sony, and Direct TV.
Although there are other patent licensing marketing programs that the company and its partner market effectively, the basis of the company’s business revolves around the marketing of the Moore Microprocessor Patent. This patent portfolio consists of 7 patents that ultimately reduce costs and size while increasing the speed of semi-conductors. The patents expire in 2015 and are the basis of more than $200 billion in annual electronic product sales.
Interest in the portfolio appears to be fairly consistent as companies working within the worldwide electronics industry continue to make contact. March 17, 2008, found the company’s latest customer (Emerson Radio) buying into the Moore portfolio with many others likely to follow suit as technology continues to evolve rapidly. Patriot Scientific and The TPL Group appear to understand the urgency behind their ownership of these important patents, and are using their portfolio effectively.
