When people start talking about nanotechnology, they think that they are talking about some sort of sci-fi. What they fail to realize is that nanotechnology spans multiple markets and is being developed for specific applications as we speak. In the 50’s and 60’s, the word may have been “plastic”, but today it is nano.
Nano Viricides Inc., a nano technology company, develops and commercializes novel nanotechnology treatments aimed at combating specific virus-driven ailments. From a layperson’s point of view, this company is the razor’s edge in medical research, development and commercialization of drugs aimed at fighting HIV/AIDS, bird flu, avian specific flu, rabies, human flu and hepatitis C.
Using nanotechnology, the company finds ways to work from the inside of a virus. In effect, the company’s products dismantle the viruses from the inside. The company has been relatively successful, having 10 drugs approved for use. Currently, it has several products in its development and approvals pipeline. Its bird flu, specific avian and rabies products are scheduled to begin Phase II trials in 2009, and its HIV/AIDS product in 2010. Current animal trials have indicated remarkable successes for its HIV product, with the next round of study trials currently being designed for tests at major US laboratories.
Given that the company works with some of the most dangerous viruses known to man, the success of its work will likely pay off in many ways past the commercialization of the product. However, one success of one of its major projects would mean astounding financial returns. Just the successes in HIV animal trials show what can happen to the value of the company. In this development field, the successes can happen quickly, and when they do, profit will happen quickly too.
