GTX Corp. (OTCBB: GTXO) develops and licenses embedded miniature GPS Personal Location Service (PLS) technology for use in person and asset tracking. The company today announced confirmation of an initial order from licensee MyAthlete LLC for its gpVector module. Production of the final units of the 1,000 piece order will be shipped during the second quarter of 2008; additional orders are expected to follow in late 2008 – 2009.
“The My Athlete contract is one example of the multiple applications our technology can be applied to. We are currently exploring relationships with a number of different companies in various industries to utilize our PLS platform,” Patrick Bertagna, CEO and president of GTX stated in the press release.
GTX’s technology was featured during the Boston Marathon in April. Racers wearing the devices were traceable in real time on web-enabled mobile devices. The MyAthlete tracking device was clipped on the racer’s belts, then the information gathered by GTX’s PLS technology was transmitted to its servers and processing software, giving real-time location information to viewers.
“Seeing the reaction of the spectators at the race who were tracking their children, spouses, or friends in real time…and giving them the chance to be in position along the course when their favorite runner was passing, so they could cheer them on…was validation of the concept. The demand for the product after the race nailed it for us…we need more and we need them now,” John Brennan, the founder and president of MyAthlete LLC stated.
