Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) provider deltathree Inc. (OTCBB: DDDC) stunned investors earlier this year when it announced that had signed on with technology giant Panasonic to provider services to the latter company’s new GLOBARANGE phone.According to Tomer Treves, consumer group managing director for deltathree, it’s joip – deltathree’s new consumer brand – that powers the GLOBARANGE’s VoIP.
“Joip is a brand name operated by deltathree,” Treves told MN1. “It’s VoIP presented as a real service for everyone to benefit from. As a result, we have fulfilled the promise of VoIP. What it really means is that soon you can go into any commercial shop, buy one of these phones, and have VoIP capabilities. The only difference would be that [the phone] would have two cables; one goes into the landline, and one into your Internet connection.”
There are a number of features imbedded in the GLOBARANGE, such as automatic membership to the GLOBARANGE VoIP community, the ability to access VoIP without a PC or external adaptor, and a virtual handset that can be downloaded onto your computer so the user can make and receive calls through any computer.
Joip technology, Treves said, contains advanced VoIP technology the company has been working on for quite some time.
“The company that set up joip has been a leading provider since this began in 1996,” Treves said. “In the last year or so, we’ve been working and making the technology into an everyday service, and we chose to do that with Panasonic because of their experience with telephones and because of their strong brand name. We just harnessed the technology we’ve been using for years now and just improving everything involved with user experience.”
Naturally, joip isn’t the only trophy on deltathree’s belt. The company has been providing customers and service providers with VoIP products and services, advanced Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) technology, and a number of other services. Still, deltathree considers joip to be one of its crown jewels.
“We took out all the aspects that we thought were actually limiting the access of VoIP and have now created a mature product that people can actually enjoy without the hassle of changing their traditional ways of communication to incorporate new technology.” Treves said.
