Color Your World with X-Rite, Inc. (XRIT)

If you have ever gotten into an argument in the paint store over which shade of blue is actually a sky blue, then you may want to pay attention to the company X-Rite, Inc. X-Rite is the global leader in color measurement and color management, offering hardware, software and services for measuring, formulating and matching color. Since color is such an intangible, but important part of our lives, they offer products and services that detect and standardize colors.

Thanks to a host of new G7®-compliant features, IntelliTrax v1.5 measures color against G7-defined targets, displays graphs to show performance against G7 targets, and indicates which inks need to be changed to achieve these targets, offering fully G7-compliant reporting. X-Rite’s IntelliTrax v1.5 also supports ISO (International Organization for Standardization) defined targets, the next generation of CxF (Color Exchange Format), the universal file format for color communication, and the new PANTONE Goe digital libraries, featuring 2,058 new colors.

X-Rite serves a wide variety of vertical markets and industries where color is crucial to the sale of their products. Imagine if industries such as Graphic Design, Photography, Printing, Packaging, Video, Retail and Industrial Paint, Automotive, Fabrics, etc. didn’t have standard coloring systems. Each product that came from each plant would have a different shade of color. A car from Detroit and a car from Mexico each claim to be Cherry Red, but neither of them is really a true Cherry Red. Companies depend on standardized color systems to ensure that their products are consistent and appealing to consumers.

Looking at the company’s 6-month chart, the stock is in recovery mode from a historic low of $1.24 in late May. Recent events of the past week don’t seem to be phasing the stock as the demand for color services remains steady. From beginning of July through today, the stock has enjoyed a nice steady incline. If trends continue, the incline could stabilize to a plateau of around $3.50-$3.75 from today’s share price of $3.03.
