As the push for increased recycling continues, more households in Canada and the U.S. are recycling than ever before. According to the latest polls, conducted in 2006, about 97 percent of Canada’s single-family households take advantage of recycling programs in their area. About 95 percent of apartment dwellers take part in environmental conservation as well.
According to the Waste Management Industry Survey, in 2004, approximately 13.4 million tons of waste were picked up from households, a 65 percent increase from 2000. While households with access to recycling programs are more apt to take advantage of conservation efforts, many households do not have sufficient access to recycling facilities.
