BioNeutral Group, Inc. (BONU.OB) Extends Market Reach with Roll-out of New Antimicrobial Product

BioNeutral Group Inc. is a specialty technology-based life science company developing a technology platform to neutralize harmful environmental contaminants, toxins and dangerous micro-organisms. The company’s Ygiene™ brand name has been submitted to the Environmental Protection Agency for request for sale approval in the United States. The products under the Ygiene brand have already been awarded approval for sale in Germany.

The company today announced it has developed a new antimicrobial technology platform demonstrating high kill times and long residual efficacies. Especially applicable to industrial manufacturing environments, the new products reflect the company’s efforts to extend its reach into new business opportunities in the industrial manufacturing sector.

Dr. Andy Kielbania, chief scientist of BioNeutral Group, said the new antimicrobials differ from the company’s previous product line in that they are oil-based, widening their application to industrial use.

“I believe this new technology platform and resulting products nicely complement our existing products. Our original Ygiene™ antimicrobials are water based and as such are not readily compatible with hydrocarbon systems. In contrast, our new antimicrobials are miscible with oil type materials,” Dr. Kielbania stated in the press release. “As a result, we are especially focusing these new products for hydrocarbon based applications where I believe these new products will deliver an attractive cost performance profile for a multitude of industrial applications which we could not previously address. The antimicrobial preservation of specialty oils and fluids is a particularly attractive business area which we are focusing upon with these new products. In addition these new products should have utility in a wide variety of plastics such as polyethylene, polypropylene, polyester and polyvinyl chloride where protection against microorganisms is required.”

Dr. Vasu Kulkarni, director of Marketing and Technical Service at British Petroleum and an advisor to BioNeutral, said the new products have potential application to broader areas of the industrial manufacturing sector.

“If the bacterial growth in industrial products, such as lubricating oils, metal working fluids, hydraulic oils, greases and cooling water, can be controlled and where productivity and degradation of the virgin products can be controlled, I believe that the new products could find applications in the industries related to metal cutting, grinding and many heat removal systems,” Dr. Kulkarni stated. “In addition, if these products prove to have low toxicity to humans and the environment compared to current products in use, it could be a compelling product for trails in actual industrial applications. This product could have potential to reduce production down time and eliminate industrial hygiene issues in an industrial work environment.”
