According to organizers at TrueMajority.com, 220 bailout protest events have been planned in over 30 states by citizens who believe that a taxpayer bailout of Wall Street should be out of the question. Grassroots advocacy group UsAction is at the forefront of these protests, citing that the majority of Americans, whether they understand the problem or not, are just saying no. The group’s program director Alan Charney stated: “The people we entrusted to run our economy have failed us. We can no longer trust them to get us out of this financial mess.” Even as lawmakers move closer to an agreeable plan, some people simply refuse to back a course of action that would put citizens’ hard-earned tax dollars toward correcting the mistakes of Wall Street.
