In latest news, a MSNBC reporter concluded in light of an investigative report that many of the nation’s bridges are structurally deficient and in need of repairs. These bridges that put travelers at risk do not receive regular inspections mandated by federal law due to the extremely high costs associated with conventional bridge inspections. These conventional inspections also miss as many as 90% of the cracks in steel structures. This puts many people that use the bridges at serious risk as realized in the Minneapolis Bridge incident.
Current law requires that US bridges are inspected every two years. However many believe that problem bridges need much closer monitoring. Conventional methods cannot identify which of the cracks could cause potentially catastrophic structure failure as Material Technologies’ EFS system can.
The reason many bridges go uninspected is the huge costs associated and budget limitations of state departments.
